In 2020, the world was rocked by a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and a racial injustice reckoning – all of which had a disproportionate impact on under represented people and forced all of us to reevaluate who we are and the values we uphold.

Diversity makes us a better law firm and helps us to attract the best talent, drive innovation, and deliver the best experience for our people and services to our clients.

We are proud of the work we’ve done over the past year to do more than just talk about our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

We have established programs to deliver meaningful and measurable change through action and accountability and incentivize all our people to undertake activities that enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at the firm.

Advancing racial justice

In 2020, we pledged to devote at least 65,000 pro bono hours through 2023 to breaking down the deeply rooted, systemic barriers in society that profoundly impact people of color. With three years remaining, we have already devoted over 20,000 hours toward our goal.

D&I billable hour credit

In 2020, we announced a D&I billable hour credit for lawyers across the globe. This credit will help to ensure our underrepresented colleagues are credited for disproportionately undertaking D&I activities, and to incentivize our people to champion D&I activities.

Global diversity goals

We introduced two new global diversity goals, which we will work diligently to achieve by 2025 at least:

• 15% minority partners*; and

• 4% LGBT+ partners*

Our existing goal of at least 30% women partners globally by 2022 remains unchanged, and we are pleased to confirm that we met our goal for women to occupy at least 30% of global management positions early in 2015.

Mansfield rule

Since 2019, we have been Mansfield Certified Plus, which means that diversity in our candidate pools and in our leadership teams exceeds industry standards in the United States.

In 2020, we were one of only five law firms that volunteered to pilot a more intensive tracking process to ensure equitable progress for minority and LGBT+ lawyers. To continue this growth, we have also joined the Mansfield 2020–2021 cohort.
